Colombia win World Cup

-

GERMANY may have claimed their fourth World Cup win in Brazil, but the result was different when Westfields Infant School, in Yateley, held its version of the tournament.

Pupils in Year 2 have been studying the competition’s host nation, Brazil.

To celebrate the end of the topic, they held a ‘mini World Cup’ with children representing several of the qualifying teams. The youngsters played five-a-side matches wearing shirts they had decorated with their country’s name and flag.

The winning team was Colombia, comprised of four girls and one boy.

Year 2 teacher Vicky Brammer said: “The children worked well in their teams, showing great determination to score but also being very caring for their classmates who do not normally play football.

“Everyone had lots of fun and every player received a certificate for taking part.

“They all looked amazing in their hand-painted shirts, which helped to make the day a great success.”
