Music acts ready for Westival 2014

-

FESTIVALGOERS will not need to go far this weekend to catch a glimpse of some of the best musical talent in the area.

The West End Centre in Aldershot is again hosting the Summer Westival, celebrating live music.

With real grass throughout the indoor venue, there will be a beer tent and art and craft activities.

Almost 100 schoolchildren got their summer holidays off to a creative and exciting start on Monday by helping the Westy decorate its gallery, in preparation for this weekend’s event.

Working with professional artists Callum Buckland and Kev Munday, a free workshop invited children to draw on the gallery walls as well as make paper pom poms and ‘upcycle’ chairs with colourful spray paints, that will adorn the centre.

Jenni Upstill, arts development officer at the Westy, said: “It was fantastic to see so many children having fun and creating such amazing artwork. We’re tempted to leave them up after the weekend. The Summer Westival is always one of the highlights of our year, a real music festival that the weather cannot spoil, and this new art will make it even better.”

Running from tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday, musicians will perform every night from 6.45pm until midnight, with a family fun day taking place, from 1.45pm until 6pm, on Saturday.

The renowned Throw A Wobbler pottery taster sessions and T-shirt printing workshops will among the activities on offer for kids and children under 12 are admitted free.

Kicking off the festival are Aldershot’s very own TwoThirtyTwo; folk duo Nizlopi, from Leamington Spa; and Bracknell four-piece The Influence, with their gloriously dirty pop music.

On Saturday, main stage hosts are seven-piece partyreggae collective Shanty, from north-west London.

Other acts include Farnborough’s Freeze The Atlantic, Origami Heart and Guildford’s Red Kites along with Surrey quintet, Our Lost Infantry.

Weekend tickets cost £42, with Friday and Saturday evenings costing £12, and Sunday, £8.50. Saturday afternoon family fun tickets cost £8.50 for adults. All tickets are available from the box office on 01252 330040.
