Have a say on Lynchford Road and active travel schemes
RESIDENTS across Farnborough are being asked to give their views on an £8.7 million transport scheme that aims to improve and enhance local travel and the neighbourhood.
As part of a consultation, which also includes consultation for the Lynchford Road scheme, Hampshire County Council is asking residents for their views on the North Camp Accessibility Package.
The Lynchford Road improvement scheme was approved in January 2019 to increase Lynchford Road to four lanes to add capacity and help reduce through-traffic using adjacent residential areas.
However, in July last year, authority was given to investigate alternative layouts with a reduced number of lanes to minimise environmental impact and free up space for improved walking and cycling facilities.
Consultation is now underway on a three-lane scheme until March 5.
The scheme is a part of the wider North Camp improvements with the county council also seeking views on the Old Lynchford Road and North Camp active travel scheme, which will provide a range of measures to create better spaces for walking and cycling in North Camp, a scheme to improve the Alexandra Road bus corridor and a North Camp low traffic neighbourhood scheme.
Cllr Rob Humby, deputy leader of the county council and executive member for economy, transport and environment, said: “We are consulting on these schemes at the same time so that they are understood as a package of measures to improve travel in the local area, providing the opportunity for a specific response on each scheme.
“This will enable us to better understand the travel needs through the whole of North Camp as well as your views on each individual scheme.
“This is a critical time to make changes to our roads to support a prosperous, healthy and green recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, making it easier for people to sustain healthier lifestyles, while helping to meet the county council’s targets to reduce carbon emissions, as part of our climate change strategy.
“The delivery of the Lynchford Road scheme would reduce the amount of traffic using the residential and commercial streets in North Camp as short-cuts.
“This would provide the opportunity to re-balance the streets and spaces within North Camp for people, not traffic, and create a safer and more liveable neighbourhood.”
