Temporary safety net to protect swimmers at pool

-

HART Leisure Centre’s main swimming pool will re-open tomorrow (Thursday) following ‘rigorous safety checks’, with a secure net now installed above the pool to ensure the welfare of swimmers pending further ceiling repairs.

All swimming pools have been closed at the Fleet leisure centre since Everyone Active, which runs it, and Hart District Council were advised that the internal ceiling above the pool required remedial works.

Following a detailed inspection by engineers, it was concluded that in order for the main swimming pool to re-open safely the temporary net would need to be fitted. Both the training pool and the teaching pool will re-open at later dates.

The district council said this week it is aiming to provide an update on the works on July 16.

A statement from the local authority last week said: “Hart District Council and Everyone Active are pleased to announce that the main swimming pool at Hart Leisure Centre is set to re-open on Thursday July 1, subject to safety checks.

“This follows the fitting of a temporary net to ensure the safety of swimmers after a detailed inspection of the ceiling above the main pool by both the manufacturer of the ceiling planks and our own appointed engineers.

“A further programme of works will be scheduled for the training pool towards the end of July, followed by the teaching pool. These are both closed for the time being, but we will inform residents and members of the time-tables for these pools as soon as we have an update. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the closure and thank you for your patience on this matter”.

The new leisure centre only opened in April 2017 and has seen financial support from Everyone Active in addition to £23 million invested by the district council.
