Care home enjoys its own friendly Games
SPORT IS THE WINNER AS RESIDENTS OF SIGNATURE AT CAMBERLEY ENJOY SUMMER OF FUN ACTIVITIES
A CARE home in Camberley has hosted a summer of celebrations to mark the Commonwealth Games, and given residents the opportunity to compete against one another in a tournament-style competition.
The Commonwealth Games, first held in 1930, is an international multi-sporting event involving athletes from Commonwealth countries. Held every four years, the popular competition has this year been staged in Birmingham and captured the hearts and attention of many sports fans.
For Signature at Camberley, the Games ran alongside its own sports week and residents enjoyed interhome competitions against other care homes across the Signature senior lifestyle organisation.
Residents at Camberley took part in several events, ranging from an egg and spoon race, basketball, bean bag discus, and boules to name but a few.
There were two teams of residents wearing red and green bibs, and, after a titanic battle, the red team was eventually named victorious.
Signature at Camberley will conclude sports week with a celebration barbecue on Saturday.
Residents, friends, families and the community have been invited to the care home to join festivities.
On what is set to be a wonderful day, guests will be able to indulge in hamburgers, hot dogs, wings and locally produced sausages along with jackets and various salads.
There will also be a selection of stalls, an animal petting farm, face painters and plenty of live entertainment to enjoy.
David Windeatt, client liaison manager, said: “Everyone at Signature at Camberley has had the most wonderful summer of sport.
“While enjoying the brilliant Commonwealth Games, we have also been enjoying our own competitive fun among residents and our fellow Signature care homes.
“Residents and team members alike have enjoyed competitive, well-fought contests, all in good spirits. Congratulations to everyone involved, and to all Commonwealth medal winners.”
Brian Phillips, a resident at the care home, speaking about the Games, said: “For as competitive and as high a standard the Commonwealth Games may be, the true story this summer is the summer of sport that has taken place here at Signature at Camberley.
“Myself and my fellow residents have had so much fun taking part in the sporting activities held here at the home. It really is the taking part that counts, and I have loved every minute of it.”
The summer of sport proved to be so much fun that residents have since asked if sports day could become a regular event.
