A COSY Farnham pub has been honoured after narrowly missing out on a prestigious brewery award.

The Queen’s Head in Farnham was a category winner, being crowned Best Town/Local Pub in Fuller’s Pub of the Year 2023 awards. Nestled in the heart of Farnham town centre, it is renowned for pouring some of the best pints in the town and was among thirteen other finalists vying for the top prize – The Griffin Trophy.

The Griffin Trophy awards recognise the best of Fuller’s 183 managed pubs and hotels. Nominated pubs undergo two rounds of judging conducted by a panel of experts from various facets of the business.

Rosanna Riley, one of the licensees of The Queen’s Head, said: “We are delighted to have won our category. We’re very proud of The Queen’s Head and have worked hard to make it the pub it is.

“We’d like to thank our team members whose hard work is key to ensuring the pub is a fun and vibrant place and our customers for sharing the journey with us.”

Having previously won the top accolade in 2011, the traditional, red-brick pub prides itself on serving excellent premium bitter beer and a variety of well-kept real ales on tap. It also offers a selection of cider, a diverse array of spirits and mixers, as well as earthy wines and cocktails.

Rose, Jack and Owen, the pub’s licensees, have enhanced the pub’s reputation in the local community, making The Queen’s Head a hive of activity with an energetic atmosphere.

The pub is popular for its delicious locally-sourced traditional British food which boasts a generous selection of vegetarian and plant-based options. Its menu is continually evolving, featuring daily specials, and on Sundays guests can tuck into a classic roast dinner.

During weekends, the award-winning establishment regularly hosts live music events, showcasing a diverse array of local talent for visitors to enjoy.

And it’s safe to say its visitors rave about it. One recent review reads: “I wanted to celebrate my birthday this year with a great burger and a good pint in a nice pub.

“The Queen’s Head certainly granted my wish! The burgers were incredible, the chunky chips to die for and my husband, who has a nasty milk intolerance, was able to have a proper pudding for the first time in years (a vegan Sundae).”

Another added: “I’ve eaten here twice and on both occasions have been blown away by the quality, taste and service. An exceptional find in Farnham, I can see why it’s always full, it has such a great vibe.”

Another said: “Amazing sandwiches, great service, good beer. One of my favorite sandwiches of 2023, and if you like music look at walls!”

Of The Queen’s Head, Fuller’s chairman Michael Turner said: “The Queen’s Head is a wonderful pub and this is a well-deserved win for Rose and Jack. They do a roaring food trade for both dine-in customers and delivery which is incredible considering the size of the kitchen.

“Rose, Jack and Owen run this business on the basis that nothing is impossible and, collectively, they are enthusiastic, positive and entrepreneurial. Their online reputation speaks volumes about their popularity and how successful they are at running such a diverse business.”
