Day aims to strengthen Boro squad after departure of Folivi

-

SPENCER Day hopes to strengthen Farnborough’s squad with a new right-back and a striker this month, while the Boro boss has also confirmed a departure from the playing squad.

Striker Michael Folivi has left the north Hampshire club to sign for Hemel Hempstead Town.

Since signing from Chelmsford City last summer, Folivi made 19 starts for Boro in all competitions, scoring five goals throughout the first half of the season.

Manager Day said: “Firstly, thank you to Michael for all his time with us. We wish him all the best. He is a real quality footballer, who’s had a terrible injury not so long ago.

“At the end of the day, I have to get the best value out of my budget. I’ve made a decision that was obviously going on for some time.

“Michael was our most expensive player. I feel I needed to make that decision. He’s got a great deal at Hemel and we wish him all the best.”

Farnborough are currently 14th in the National League South and Day is hoping for a positive second-half of the campaign with at least two new additions.

The Boro boss is confident a full-back will complete his paperwork this week while adding that the club need “at least one highquality striker” - possibly a loan from a Premier League side.

“The right-back has been cleared to sign now,” Day said. “He should be signing the paperwork this week; he’s now been cleared by their medical team.

“He’s already got National League South experience, so fingers crossed that’s done. A rightback or right-wing back, so that’s good news.

“We’re looking at a loan striker from a Premier League club, who trained with us. We’ve still got some way to go on that.

“Make no bones about it, we desperately need at least one high-quality striker to take us through the rest of the season and beyond. We’ve got three very strong enquiries out. One at this level, one at a high level who is currently abroad in a complicated situation. Another one level below, that we’re very keen on.

“These are very, very highquality strikers, but we’re working very, very hard because I’m very conscious that [Aldershot Town loanee Hady] Ghandour has got a twinge and might not be available for us. We’re speaking to Aldershot regularly and there is a possibility to extend that loan.

“As usual, behind the scenes, there’s a staggering amount going on. Obviously, Connor Hall went back, so we’re asking an awful lot of Connor Cullen who’s learning at this level but doing well. We don’t just want to sign someone for the sake of it, unless it’s almost a free loan to give us a bit of cover, which you hope works out.

“Young Taylor Clark came in from Wycombe last week and I thought had a really, really strong debut as an out and out number four. Sometimes these loans work out, often they don’t, so you just have to balance the books and balance the playing squad.

“We are really positive on it. We’re working really hard behind the scenes to us this extra money, if we can, to get the right highquality striker in, hopefully as soon as possible. Time will tell. Every hour something changes, so we look forward positively and you’ll know as soon as we know.”

After having last weekend off, Farnborough now face back-toback home games in the National League South. Boro were due to Welling United last night (Tuesday, January 16), before Chelmsford City visit the Saunders Transport Community Stadium on Saturday (January 20).
