Man and child die in collision

A MAN and a child were killed in a three-vehicle crash in Lightwater, and two other people were taken to hospital with ‘serious’ injuries.

The incident happened on Red Road at around 8.20pm on

Sunday February 11. The collision involved a grey Range Rover, a blue BMW and a white Audi. The driver of the BMW, a man in his 30s, and a child, who was travelling with him, both died, police have confirmed.

A spokesman for Surrey Police, said: “Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers. Two other people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

A 62 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing death by driving without due care while unfit through drink or drugs.

Red Road was closed between the junctions for The Maultway and MacDonald Road following the incident. Anyone with informatio­n, dash cam footage or helmet-cam footage is urged to call police quoting PR/0624.

Reacting to the news, the deputy cabinet member to the leader of Surrey County Council, Cllr Paul Deach wrote: “I am saddened to share the news of a tragic incident that occurred on Red Road, Lightwater, this past Sunday In times like these, it is crucial for our community to come together. The authoritie­s are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has any informatio­n to come forward. I am sure everyone in the community will have thoughts for those who have lost their loved ones and extend their sincere wishes for the recovery for those injured.”
