EMPTY offices that used to be the home of Siemens’ headquarters until the company moved to Farnborough in 2022, could be demolished to make way for 170 homes.

Plans have been submitted to Surrey Heath Borough Council for the Frimley development, which sits south of the M3 and Camberley.

Developers hope to build a mix of apartments and houses as part of the Frimley Square scheme, with more than a third pledged to be affordable housing.

There have been numerous revisions to the site’s planned layout, but documents suggest around 100 units will be provided within four apartment buildings. These will be one or two-bedroom flats and have balconies or terraces and shared amenity spaces.

The buildings will be spaced out with two larger buildings towards the back of the site and two smaller ones closer to the front. The remaining 66 homes will be houses that range from two to four bedrooms.

Documents also outline plans for up to 240 car parking spaces and landscaping at the site, with a central open space described as a focal point for the development.

Access to Frimley Square will be via the current entrance in Chobham Road opposite The Grove Primary School and the roundabout for Frimley Park Hospital.

There are also bus stops along

Chobham Road within 250 metres of the site, and in Portsmouth Road that provide services towards Frimley town centre, Camberley and Farnborough.

The application, submitted on behalf of Miller Homes, states: “The proposed development makes use of an unused but highly sustainably located brownfield site that has been earmarked by Surrey Heath Borough Council for residential redevelopment in their draft plan”.

It added that the proposed development would lead to economic benefits for the area through the creation of jobs, resident’s contributions to the local economy and additional investment towards highways and open space infrastructure.

Developers said they explored the possibility of keeping one of the four current office blocks but said it would become dominant within the character of the scheme.

The buildings used by Siemens were constructed in 2002.
