Theft of dream wedding dress is heartbreaking for bride-to-be
PRE-LOVED PURCHASE STOLEN FROM DOORSTEP
A BRIDE-TO-BE from Aldershot was left devastated after someone stole her wedding dress from her doorstep soon after it had been delivered.
Becky Herbert, 34, bought a beautiful second-hand wedding dress from Vinted for her August wedding to her partner Jules. She saw the ivory dress with a pretty lace train on the app and knew it was perfect, reports The Mirror.
Becky said: “I always knew as soon as we started planning the wedding that I wanted a pre-loved dress. It was exactly what I’d been looking for.”
She paid £250 for the dress, and Evri delivered it. The firm even sent her an email with a picture of the package on the doorstep at her house in St George’s Road. As she was not at home, Becky quickly asked a neighbour to take the package inside so it would not be left out in the open. But in less than 45 minutes on Saturday February 3, someone had stolen the item.
Becky said: “I had requested that the parcel was not delivered to the door and set an alternative safe space, which had been acknowledged by the courier – but they still just dumped it on the doorstep.”
An upset and angry Becky reported the theft to the police who are now looking into the “reckless” act. She said she been having “sleepless nights”, hoping the thief would return the dress once they realise its importance.
Unfortunately, as the dress is second-hand and no longer made, Becky worries she will not be able to wear it for her wedding later this year.
Evri has provided a refund, admitting there was “no clear evidence that the parcel was delivered securely”. But Becky, who has been with Jules for five years and got engaged last summer, said she was heartbroken over the “waste” of “such a beautiful dress”, adding “I never got to touch it or put it on”. She added: “There will be no questions asked, I don’t care who has taken it, I just want it back.” Police have asked anyone with any information about the theft to come forward.
