New network could help area’s businesses thrive
BUSINESSES are being encouraged to join a new Surrey Heath Manufacturing Network, which has been launched in partnership with Surrey Chambers of Commerce.
According to Surrey Heath Borough Council, the network aims to improve collaboration among local manufacturing and engineering firms; facilitating shared learning, creating supply chain opportunities and offering business support – elevating innovation and growth.
Councillor Kel Finan-Cooke, portfolio holder for economic and income development at the borough council, said: “Through sectorspecific events, workshops and tailored support services, the council aims to establish this network as a place where businesses can exchange knowledge, explore synergies and collectively address challenges.
“We will also address the local skills gap, work with industry experts to support net zero objectives and look ahead at future technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) to improve productivity within the sector.”
The first event for the network is due to take place in April and the borough council said more details will be shared soon.
It will be hosted by Amazon Filters, whose managing director Neil Pizzey, said: “We are looking forward to sharing some of our challenges and working together to find solutions.
“We welcome other manufacturers to join us to create a vibrant, supportive network.”
Louise Punter, the CEO of Surrey Chambers of Commerce, said: “Much of the work Surrey Chambers does is around bringing businesses and other organisations together so that they can share challenges, best practice and business support opportunities.
“We are delighted to be focusing on the manufacturing sector and look forward to building an effective, productive network”
The Surrey Heath Manufacturing Network was set up by the borough council’s economic development team as part of its strategy.
The Surrey Heath Economic Development Strategy provides an ambitious road map for good growth and prosperity of the local economy from 2023 to 2028.
It identifies opportunities for accelerated economic growth and resilience while taking a proactive approach to mitigating the global, regional and local challenges impacting the borough.
