Farnborough let Fuller run riot for bonus

-

FARNBOROUGH recorded a 27-22 home win over Chichester III in Hampshire Merit 4B on Saturday.

A respectable crowd showed up to watch the game at Tile Barn Close where both teams traded penalties and turnover ball without many forays into either 22 for most of the first quarter.

John Fuller started the scoring for Farnborough with a superb run from midfield, fending off multiple tacklers to score behind the posts. Aiden Langley duly converted; 7-0.

Chichester had their opportunity with a penalty but missed the kick, and the even-handed game continued until 35 minutes. Then Fuller was off again, this time on a dramatic run from the 22 that pushed him out to the left wing, bringing the score to 12-0.

Chichester found a way through with two tries and after a try was disallowed for Farnborough, they came back from a lineout to give Sam Wales their third score in what was the final play of the first half; 17-10.

Chichester were pushing hard in the second half, keeping the home side in their 22, and their big tighthead prop pushed over the line, taking the score to 17-15.

Farnborough drew breath and regained composure, releasing Fuller on another run. It was as if he had a force field protecting him for his hat-trick and Farnborough’s bonus point try. Just to seal the deal, he scored another with six minutes of play left, taking the score to 27-15.

Chichester had made Farnborough work hard throughout and were facing going home with nothing, but a try and conversion at the final whistle gave them a deserved two league points for their efforts.
