Marinescu leads the way for Fleet Town on the road

-

FLEET Town won 3-0 away at Combined Counties League Premier South basement boys Colliers Wood United on Saturday.

After a steady opening few minutes, Fleet Town settled into the game and began to show their attacking superiority.

A probing run by Mihail Marinescu 12 minutes into the game, was only stopped when he was brought down in the penalty box. Marinescu got up and brushed himself down before stepping forward to take the spot kick himself, making no mistake as he confidently struck the penalty into the back of the net to give Fleet an early lead.

The visitors had to wait until almost half-time before extending their lead, Marinescu again running through into the box and squeezing a shot past the keeper into the bottom right corner of the net to make it 2-0 after 45 minutes.

The second half saw Fleet continue to attack and only strong defending from the home side was keeping the visitors at bay.

But a moment of desperate defending after 58 minutes saw the referee award another penalty to the Blues. The ball was given to Marinescu to allow him the opportunity of completing his hat-trick, but this time home keeper Toby

McKimm chose the right way, getting his fingertips to the ball and pushing it against the post.

As the ball stayed in play, Dan Bone was the fastest to react and reached it first to smash it into the net, making it 3-0 to Fleet Town and killing the match off.

From there Fleet were able to comfortably see the game out and pick up another three points as well as a clean sheet for Filip Chalupniczak,

his second in three weeks.

This was the first of a string of away fixtures for Fleet Town, caused by previous postponements over the wet winter. Their next games are at Tadley Calleva tomorrow (Thursday); away to Spelthorne Sports on Saturday; away to Farnham Town, who have already secured top spot and promotion, on Tuesday (April 9), and away to Epsom & Ewell on Saturday April 13.
