Wood snatch their chances to shatter dominant Shots

FINAL HOME GAME OF THE SEASON ENDS IN 3-0 DEFEAT

-

ALDERSHOT Town were beaten in their final home game of the National League season, as goals from Lee Ndlovu, Erico Sousa and Kabongo Tshimanga let Boreham Wood go home 3-0 victors.

The Shots kicked off their final home game of the season with two changes from the side who were beaten in Hartlepool, with James Daly and Olly Scott rested in favour of the returning duo Jack Barham and Tyler Frost.

Despite the difference in league positions it was Luke Garrard’s Boreham Wood who took the lead with ten minutes on the clock.

Lee Ndlovu picked up the ball on the edge of the box and drove into the area, firing hard and beyond Jordi Van Stappershoef to give the visiting Wood a lead.

The visitors were then given a golden chance to double the lead, as Ryan Glover’s attempted clearance caught David Agbontohoma, and the referee pointed to the spot.

Erico Sousa stepped up, and sent Jordi Van Stappershoef the wrong way to put Boreham Wood ahead by two.

The Shots had a great chance to get back into the game in the 33rd minute, but Josh Stokes could only meet the feet of Nathan Ashmore after he got on the end of Ryan Glover’s through ball.

Aldershot saw most of the ball in the first half, but with a two-goal lead Boreham Wood were more than happy to defend their box and see out the half.

The hosts continued to control possession, but to no avail, so in the 57th minute Tommy Widdrington rolled the dice for the first time. Tommy Willard made way, and in his place Josh Barrett came on.

Boreham Wood had a third in the 67th minute, scored by Kabongo Tshimanga. The Shots failed to clear the ball, so Jack Payne lifted it back into the box, and Tshimanga held off Haji Mnoga and converted low from close range to make it 3-0.

Kwame Thomas came on in the 75th minute in place of Ryan Glover, with Tommy Widdrington aiming to get his side back into the game.

Jack Barham had a golden chance to get one back in the 84th minute, with Josh Stokes doing well to work a way to cross the ball in, but Barham’s header was saved by Nathan Ashmore.

The Shots’ last change of the 90 came with 87 minutes on the clock, as Haji Mnoga made way for Christian Maghoma, making only his second appearance of the season.

It wasn’t the result the Shots were hoping for, but a good season at the EBB Stadium came to a close with Boreham Wood 3-0 victors.

Attention now turns to the final week of the season for the Shots, with two away trips to Gateshead tonight (Wednesday) and Dagenham & Redbridge (on Saturday) awaiting.
