John V Palaeologus
Palaiologos Dynasty 1332-91
Although not a murderous man, John’s reign was dominated by violence and rebellion. Ascending to the throne as a young boy, the empire was plunged into a civil war over his regency. John managed to overthrow his regent, his father’s old aide, a few years later following a second civil war. He was deposed twice — first by his son and then by his grandson. John managed to regain the throne both times but was forced to appease his sons with titles.
