Cramped conditions

With 30 to 40 beds per ward, there was little room for the staff to move around. When the hospital first opened in 1915, there were 520 beds for patients. However, because of Endell Street’s prime location near the railway, there was a high influx of casualties on a daily basis and so the number increased to 573.
