French foray

Departing Fort Duquesne, Captain Daniel Liénard de Beaujeu and his French and Native American command intend to ambush the advancing British columns. But visibility is limited in the thick forest, and there is no time to set a trap when the enemy is detected at midafternoon. Experienced in frontier fighting, the Shawnee forces take cover behind rocks and trees and begin firing steadily at Gage’s advancing soldiers.
