Both sides made use of aux­il­iary and al­lied troops to round out their armies. The Teu­tonic Knights were sup­ported by their own feu­dal troops, which in­cluded Ger­man and Dan­ish knights as well as Es­to­nian aux­il­iaries. Alexan­der’s force in­cluded Nov­gorod’s mili­tia, Finns and no­madic steppe archers.
