As in­cred­i­ble as it may seem on a ship filled with highly flammable gas, the Hin­den­burg also boasted a smok­ing room. Sep­a­rated from the rest of the ship by a dou­ble-door air­lock it was also kept at a higher than am­bi­ent pres­sure so leak­ing hy­dro­gen couldn’t en­ter it. Pas­sen­gers also had to share one elec­tric lighter, while staff man­ning the cock­tail bar would also mon­i­tor guests to make sure they didn’t leave with lit cig­a­rettes.
