Un­seen, how­ever of­ten crit­i­cal in keep­ing a Knight Tem­plar breath­ing, was the hauber­geon, a padded jerkin that sat against his skin. The jerkin ex­tended over much of the up­per body and was the last line of de­fence from en­emy blows. In colder cli­mates, it also helped keep the war­rior warm – not an is­sue in the Holy Land.
