What is the lasting legacy of George Orwell?

In Burma

After leaving Eton, the young Orwell joined the Indian Imperial Police, and worked in the largest province of the British Raj, Burma (now Myanmar), for five years. Here he experienced the oppression of Britain’s Imperial rule firsthand, and this would shape his political and social standpoints for the rest of his life. While on leave in England he decided not to return to Burma and resigned from the Indian Imperial Police.
