8. Irish War of Independence 1919-1921

The Irish Republican Army embarked on a guerrilla style war against the British, ambushing police and soldiers. The British interned thousands of Republicans and the notorious Black and Tan police auxiliaries were known for ill discipline and atrocities. With a truce came Partition of Northern Ireland, the Irish Free State and the Irish Civil War.
