Work in the BBC

Joining the BBC in 1941 as talks assistant and later producer, Orwell delivered a regular radio broadcast called Talking to India, and also produced leaflets and newsletter­s promoting support for Britain’s war effort. He would later describe this as a ‘hopeless’ task, although he stood by the content of his broadcasts. Orwell resigned from his post that he had held for two years in Septmeber 1943
