THE AIDS MEMORIAL QUILT

The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt was displayed publicly for the first time on the National Mall in Washington, DC during the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. The quilt was conceived by Cleve Jones, a San Francisco gay rights activist, as a memorial to those who had died from AIDS as well as to highlight the devastatin­g impact of the disease on the nation.
