THE FALL OF SINGAPORE

During WWII, Japanese forces successful­ly invaded Singapore, a British crown colony. The surrender of the British-led forces was the largest in history, with around 80,000 British, Indian and Australian soldiers becoming prisoners of war. In this image, Lieutenant­general Arthur Percival (far right) is on his way to surrender to the Japanese.
