Originally titled The Last Man In Europe, George Orwell’s seminal novel was a brutal attack on the horrors of totalitarianism. Published in the UK in 1949, it would not be until almost 40 years later in 1988 that the book was allowed in any language in the Soviet Union. Since then, there have been five official Russian translations. Somewhat oddly, the book was also challenged in Jackson County, Florida, for being pro-communist.
