GANDHI BEGINS THE SALT MARCH
In protest against the British salt monopoly in India, Mahatma Gandhi led a 24-day march from the Sabarmati Ashram to the village of Dandi, travelling around 20km per day. When he finally arrived in Dandi, he broke the British laws by collecting salt from the shore. He is pictured here during the march accompanied by his followers, with thousands of people joining them along the way.
