The Library of Celsus

ESTABLISHED: 2ND CENTURY CE

One of the first structures excavated from the ancient city of Ephesus, the entrance to the Library of Celsus can still be seen today. The Roman-built library is thought to have contained 12,000 scrolls and at its entrance had statues representing the virtues of wisdom, character, judgement and expertise.
