After Ayutthaya is sacked by the Burmese in 1767, the kingdom is in tatters and so King Taksin moves the capital to Thonburi. Just 15 years later, however, King Rama I relocates it to Bangkok, directly across the Chao Phraya River. The Chakri dynasty is founded.
