THE GREAT BALL COURT
Ball courts were built at various Mesoamerican sites and there are several at Chichen Itza – this openair ball court is the biggest one, at
69m wide and 166m long. Hands and feet could not be used during the Mesoamerican ballgame and players had to use their hips and perhaps even their knees and elbows. Along the sides there are stone rings, decorated with feathered serpents, for a rubber ball to be thrown through.
