COLOURFUL PAINT

Parts of the figurine appear to have been painted with ‘Maya blue’, a bright and unique pigment made by heating indigo and palygorskite.

The centre of the face and the loincloth were painted red, while white paint was used on his pectoral and the circles on his feet.
