THE INVENTION OF GOUDA

Although cheese has been made and enjoyed since ancient times, the honour of being the oldest known cheese still in production goes to Gouda, which has been proudly made in the Netherlands since 1184. Traditionally, Gouda is made by women, who pass the secrets of the process to their daughters.
