STILTON IS INVENTED

Although there is some dispute about the origins of England’s justly celebrated blue-veined Stilton cheese, it is most likely to have been invented in the early 1720s by the Leicestershire cheesemaker Frances Paulet and rapidly became so famous that Defoe described it as “English Parmesan” in 1724.
