COCHLEARIA (SNAIL SPOONS)

Examples of these smaller, slimmer spoons with unusual handles have been found at a variety of ancient Roman sites. They have earned the nickname ‘snail spoons’, as it is suspected that the handle was perfect for removing snails, as well as seafood such as cockles, from their shells.
