USSR troops enter Afghanista­n in an attempt to support the pro-soviet government in the capital Kabul. For the next ten years a brutal conflict takes place, killing an estimated one million civilians, 90,000 mujahideen rebel fighters, 18,000 Afghan troops and 14,500 Soviet soldiers.
