China derives its name from this dynasty, pronounced “Chin,” its first real empire. The Qin Dynasty only lasts from 221 BCE to 207 BCE but establishes the empire’s approximate boundaries for the next two millennia. Extensions of a northern border wall mark the beginnings of work on the Great Wall.
