CONVICT LABOUR

Further burial places of workers forced to help in the building of the huge compound during its nearly three-decade construction were discovered here. The skeletons were found with iron collars and chains attached to them, leading archaeologists to speculate that the bodies buried here were most likely those of criminals pressed into hard labour.
