MUTILATED SKELETONS

This area has about 100 tombs containing a number of mutilated skeletons, with bones lying scattered in the doorways to the chambers. It’s thought these may be the remains of concubines who were placed in the tomb to serve the emperor in the next world. However, the violent nature of their demise makes it possible they were murdered by the emperor’s successor in case any happened to be pregnant.
