ANNE BONNY

1697 – 1721

One of the few recorded women who sailed as a pirate in this era, Bonny had a fiery temper that matched her red hair. She married a sailor in her teens and moved to Nassau around 1718. Here she met ‘Calico’ Jack Rackham and joined his crew, while her husband became an informant for the new governor of the Bahamas. Bonny became pregnant, but it’s unknown what happened to the child. She was tried alongside Rackham but her fate remains unknown.
