VITRUVIAN MAN
Although Leonardo is perhaps rightly remembered best for his paintings, his scientific sketches are still important works of art. Completed in 1492, the sketch is also known as The proportions of the human body according to Vitruvius
showing Leonardo’s intention to demonstrate what he believed to be the ideal human proportions and building on the work of the Roman architect Vitruvius. The drawing is surrounded by Leonardo’s own notes and today is part of the permanent collection of the Gallerie dell’accademia in Venice.
