THE ADORATION OF THE MAGI

Another unfinished work, this was commissioned by the Augustinian monks of San Donato a Scopeto in Florence, but when Leonardo had to leave a year later the painting was left incomplete and remained so upon his death.

The Virgin Mary and child are in the centre, and the painting is particularly striking due to its depiction of the pleading old men and armed soldiers surrounding them.
