NASA’s mis­sion to send the first space probe to­wards the largest, hottest and most volatile ob­ject in our So­lar Sys­tem was fi­nally launched on 12 Au­gust 2018. On the tip of a United Launch Al­liance Delta IV Heavy rocket, Parker So­lar Probe is fi­nally on its way to make his­tory in space ex­plo­ration.

The Sun’s er­ratic and un­usual be­hav­iour has been the sub­ject of many stud­ies, how­ever, this mis­sion will sup­ply the first set of con­crete data about the ob­ject it­self. This in­for­ma­tion will add valu­able con­straints to many the­o­ries to help sci­en­tists gain a bet­ter un­der­stand­ing of our near­est star.
