15 Be­fore you jump ahead and buy a tele­scope, re­mem­ber that the sky comes in three lay­ers. The first is ev­ery­thing you can see with the naked eye. The third is what you can see with the tele­scope. Don’t for­get the sec­ond layer, which you can only re­ally ap­pre­ci­ate with a good pair of binoc­u­lars. Not only are they por­ta­ble, they give you a stereo view of the heav­ens and a much wider field of view than a tele­scope can, and binoc­u­lars are the only way to look at some ob­jects in the night sky.
