Gerald D. Griffin, former director of the NASA Johnson Space Center, was a technical advisor for Apollo 13. He was also a technical advisor for Contact and Deep Impact, where he also had a small acting role. Throughout his career with NASA, Griffin held many positions including flight director in Mission Control for all of the Apollo manned missions and lead flight director for three lunar landing missions: Apollo 12, 15 and 17. He was also part of the team of flight controller­s who were responsibl­e for ensuring the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission made it back safely.
