I can’t find anything

It’s easy to forget how small a telescope’s field of view can be, even if the magnification is low. The telescope can only see a small piece of the sky, so it’s fairly easy to be spending most of the night trying to line up your telescope.

Solution

If you don’t own a GoTo to help you find objects, you should use your telescope’s guide scope or finderscope, provided this has been aligned correctly. You can also look along the end of your instrument’s tube to get an idea of how it should be aligned in order to view your target. The Moon at a low magnification is your best bet at solving this problem.
