Exoplanet Missions Future
CHEOPS and Webb
Launched in 2019, the CHaracterising ExOPlanets Satellite (CHEOPS) is the first mission dedicated solely to the investigation of exoplanet atmospheres. CHEOPS will select so-called ‘golden targets’ for follow-up investigations by the James Webb Space Telescope. One of the primary missions of Webb, the most powerful telescope ever launched into space, will be the investigation of the atmospheres of exoplanets. It’s poised to reveal more about distant worlds than any mission that came before it.
