Bode’s Galaxy (Messier 81)

-

Visible all night during summer

With a pair of binoculars, Bode’s Galaxy looks like a small, oval-shaped patch of light. In a telescope it is much bigger and brighter, with two very obvious spiral arms winding away from its compact centre. Big telescopes reveal clumpiness in the arms.
