Omega Nebula (Messier 17)
Best visible throughout the night in July
You might be able to see Messier 17 out of the corner of your eye as a tiny smudge on a really clear night, but binoculars will show it much better. A telescope resolves the nebula’s shape and helps explain why it’s named after the letter of the Greek alphabet.
