WAHT IF THESE NUMBERS CHANGED?

-

Fine-structure constant

If alpha were larger, nuclear fusion within stars wouldn’t be able to occur, meaning carbon, the element on which life is based, couldn’t be produced.

Gravitational constant

If this were smaller, planets might not orbit around stars, and whole galaxies might fall apart. If G were larger we might not be able to survive on Earth.

Elementary charge

If the elementary charge of particles were to change, we’d see alterations on a more subatomic level, especially in the way charged particles interact with each other.

Planck’s constant

If Planck’s constant were to increase greatly, it could mean atoms cease to exist altogether, as electrons could be freed from their nuclei very readily.

Light speed

If the speed of light changes across the universe it might mean our estimates about the size and even the age of the universe could be wrong.

Electric constant

If this were greater the force between two separate electric charges would be weaker. This would have a huge impact on electromagnetism as we know it.
