Tullibody Community Garden begins season

- By Kevin McRoberts editorial@alloaadvertiser.co.uk

TULLIBODY Community Garden kicked off their season last weekend with a seed sowing event which was really well attended by an enthusiastic band of budding gardeners of all ages.

People at the event sowed seeds and tatties in a bag to take home – all funded by Forth Environment Link and Net Zero Scotland.

They were in good hands. Working with them and dodging the showers were the Garden’s new Community Cook and Gardener, Val Whyte and Clarissa Moditz.

They will be running a ‘Grow and Cook’ Club on Sundays starting on April 28, and throughout the spring and summer.

Clarissa said: “The club will be based on what people wish to learn about how to succeed in growing vegetables and cooking what they grow. I’m really excited about the club starting.”

Val ran the successful ‘Cannae Cook to Canny Cook’ beginners classes last year, and Clarissa worked at the Redhall Community Garden in Edinburgh for Scottish Action for Mental Health.

Like everyone at the Garden, Val and Clarissa are passionate about helping people grow and cook good food.nd

Val said: “Whatever the size of space you have to grow in its worth it – you won’t taste better than your own fresh veg!”

Christine Turner, a Garden Trustee, added: “We feel very lucky to have two such experienced and likeable people to run the club, and delighted that folks are already signing up for it.”

Places are still available at the ‘Grow and Cook’ Club. Anyone interested in joining the Club should let the Garden know via Facebook or email communitygardentullibody@gmail.com.
